Incubating o11y in an Enterprise

Why is o11y adoption hard? How do you get your executives to see o11y as different than monitoring? What standards, flows, and practices do you need to put in place to be successful?

Andy and Francis helped drive adoption of observability practices at a major financial institution. Follow along as we tell the story of how we started transforming service/engineering teams that didn’t know what SCM was to encouraging and creating the standards, processes, practices and feedback loops needed for a successful o11y implementation.

More about Andy Dufour

Andrew (aka Andy) is a former technical lead at Blackberry, where he helped build, run, and manage services at scale for several years.

After doing the DevOps things there, he joined Chef, helping dozens of customers adopt a code-driven approach to their products and services.

He’s helped with talks at DOES and DevOps Days Toronto, as well as spoken at DevOps Days Edinburgh, and multiple ChefConfs.

With the demise of Chef, Andy looked for what was the next thing that could help change practitioners lives in the tech space and found observability, OpenTelemetry and Honeycomb. He’s now in the customer success group at HoneyComb, helping customers adopt and live their best o11y lives.
